Long time no talk.
I have an interesting question for you all as I sit next to a friend of mine that really religious.
Do you think it’s possible for a full-blown atheist to have a relationship with someone who was totally religious?
Have you ever dated someone religious?
Let me know!
If you have dated someone religious, what was it like?

Hitchens delivers one of his best hammer blows to cocky audience member.
Meh. Cheesy title, but I really like the point of discussion in this video. A clearly offended audience member asks Hitchens the question, “If there is no god, why do you spend your whole life trying to convince people there isn’t one? Why don’t you just stay home?”
I feel like this is a question commonly asked of the more outspoken members of the secular community. Why can’t we just shut the hell up? Why can’t we just let the religious people believe what they want? Why do we have to make such a big deal out of it and be so gosh darn offensive to people’s beliefs? Well, as Hitchens goes on to point out, it’s because religious ideology deeply affects the world that we have to live in, oftentimes in an extremely negative way.
So perhaps if the religious people would “leave it alone and stay home”, we could too.

"atheists are so mean!" lol
Dawkins makes well supported points for the improbability of God but comes across as arrogant because of the idiots he’s arguing against.
He’s a pretentious ass, but that’s what the movement requires. There are too many quiet atheists and loud religious leaders.
He’s tad arrogant to many people, but I think he is a genious and I appreciate him and what he stands for.
Though he often comes off as pretentious, I like what he’s done for the secular community.
I pretty sure he’s a badass.
A great man, with very important contributions to both evolutionary biology and criticism of religion. A personal hero.
I like him because he was well known, makes clear points, and has no shame about being an atheist.
I instinctively shied away from ‘The God Delusion’ for years. I think I feared what I would find in it at a time when I was coming to question my own beliefs. I eventually read it this year, and it was the sledgehammer that broke the camel’s back.
A brilliant man, passionate about his field and his convictions. He can be a bit foot-in-mouth at times, but he can be eloquent as well.
i think he is a very good evolutionary biologist and scientist. and also his books are amazing. i can’t say anything for his personal life.
In his personal life, I don’t consider him to be a ‘good’ person. This doesn’t delegitimize his ideas on evolution and atheism though.
He’s a very good evolutionary biologist, but he’s way too militant in his atheism. I wish he would stick to evolution - he does well there.
A social moron that makes us all look bad in public.
Thanks everyone for responding, and feel free to respond if you would like to but haven’t yet. I’m just always curious to hear you guys’ opinions on things, and this question was a point of discussion between a group of friends of mine and myself a couple days ago. I suppose I could share my opinion now since all of you have:
I both like and dislike Dawkins. He is clearly intelligent, passionate, and not ashamed of his convictions. All of those are qualities I really respect. However, I find that his particular brand of rhetoric isn’t always effective in creating the kind of cultural change he would like to see. His belligerence often makes people defensive and less open to hearing what he has to say, no matter how true what he is saying may be. I understand his anger and frustration with the religious community, but the way he communicates can be extremely self-defeating.
