Yeah that last ask i sent didn't come out the way i planned. i guess it's because i'm tired and need to go to bed, but before i go to bed i just wanna say that your blog is awesome and i love seeing you guys post awesome stuff :D
Monkeys understand that doing a favour for another monkey will deem them a favour in return at a later date. That is basically "do to others what you would have them do to you", a concept understood by animals who cannot read. Religion is all mythology, gives some nice stories that equates to the morals of lore like little red riding hood's not to talk to strangers. Past that, it is nothing more. Really do hope humanity sheds these archaic bindings.
I like your input, though I would say, “All religion is mythology.”
i hate it when people say that you need a religion or read the bible to know right from wrong, mainly because it basically mean that the only thing preventing them from doing horrible things is to believe and worship some imaginary friend in the sky :/
I couldn’t agree more. It’s natural instinct being accredited to an unnatural being.
God gives us a purpose in life that we fulfill in his name to do good in this world. We are created as a reflection of God and have a relationship with him. Our soul is filled and we have a complete life when we follow God's plan for us. We call upon God to lead us in the right direction, and then one day we will receive the most fufilling thing we can experience...God's love.
Sounds a lot like what I’m doing, except with some psychopathic stuff.
I agree with the “do good in this world.” That’s about it.
god and religion in general was created so that people knew had a rulebook on how to live their lives. they need some book to tell them what to do because without it, they would be left to make their OWN decisions and choices with their OWN minds, and that's just too damn hard. religion gives people a crutch.
I think it was more to answer questions that were previously unknowable, along with the reasons you gave.
So, Atheism is the rejection of theism in your worldview, is this valid? Are you against Theism in all its forms and evils? What about the degree of belief that you're willing to allow in your worldview?
Yes that’s relatively valid, I don’t see anything immediately wrong with that.
I am against Theism entirely.
I allow no degree of belief, until proper evidence is shown.
I get so disappointed in people when they think that living for yourself is somehow less than living for a God. Some of the most selfless, fulfilled people I know are atheists. This is obviously not a question, but more of an "I feel ya."
Why does the lack of an afterlife take away motivation? Can we not enjoy things as we experience them? Is pleasure only retrospective? Of course not. As a human I have evolved the ability to feel happy. I can enjoy anything from lying on a beach watching the stars to riding a rollar coaster to hanging out with my girlfriend. We can be happy and sad and excited and in love. Just because our emotions and experiences might be meaningless to the universe doesn't mean they are meaningless to us.
I agree with what you're trying to say Victor. We should create our meanings to our own individual lives.. But what really confuses me is: For what cause? What's our motivation? Why should we do the things we do when there's no afterlife to reminisce about the lives we used to lead?
Well I ask you this, what’s the motivation for all the other animals in the world?
They only live to prolong their species. I think that’s what Humans should do.
We may not be able to reminisce ourselves, but we can leave legacies behind in this world when we die. Even if it’s just to the people who love us.
Hey, Victor. From one philosophical atheist to another, wouldn't the disbelief in a God and a disbelief in an afterlife be nihilistic? As if nothing were to mean anything? Wouldn't that suggest that life has absolutely no meaning? What is the point of it all?
Well I wouldn’t think of it as nihilistic, it’s more like reality.
To believe that humans are born with a purpose is nothing more that egotistical to me. I believe that we make our own purposes in life. Life is exactly what you make it, but there are no predetermined reasons for our existence.
So because we are human we create reasons for our lives. I live to make the world a better place, I look to help people when I can. This doesn’t mean that this is the purpose of human life, just the purpose of my human life.
